How To Upgrade the firmware version of your [Wireless] router

Upgrade the firmware version of your router

There are two ways for you to upgrade the firmware:

 

A. Upgrade online

1. Open your browser and key in http://router.asus.com or http://192.168.1.1

2. Type your username and password to login to the router web UI. (The default username and password is "admin")

3. After you login to the UI, please click the Firmware Version on the top of UI to enter the firmware Upgrade page.

You can also click [Administration] under the Advanced Settings, then click [Firmware Upgrade].

4. Click [Check Update], and the router will start checking if there's any new or updated version firmware for your router.

If you're currently using the latest version firmware, it will show as the following image.

If not, the button [Firmware Upgrade] will appear.  

5. Click [Firmware Upgrade], then wait for the upgrading to complete.

6.  After the upgrade is finished, please sign-in to the web UI again and go to [Administration] > [Restore/Save/Upload Setting] > [Factory default] > Click [Restore]

7. Then a pop-up message appears to ask if you want to reset your router. Click [OK], and the Reset will start.

8. After the reset is complete, please go to https://router.asus.com and follow the QIS to set up your router again.

 

B. Upgrade Firmware Manually

You can also download the Firmware file from ASUS Official Website: https://www.asus.com/

1. Open your browser and type https://www.asus.com

2. Enter ASUS Official Website and search for your router model name.

3. Click [Support] > [Driver and Utility] > [Driver & Tools] > Select your OS

4. Find the latest FW version and Click [Download]

5. After the download completes, open the zip file and extract it. Then you can find a .trx file.

6. Go back to your WEB UI login page and login.

7. Click the Firmware Version and you can see [Manual firmware update]  > Click [Upload]

8. Find the .trx file which you've just downloaded and click [Open]

Then the Firmware starts to upgrade.

9. After the upgrade completes, the Web UI will ask you to login again.

10. Go to [Administration] > [Restore/Save/Upload Setting] [Factory default] > Click [Restore]

11. Then a message will pop up to ask if you want to reset your router. Click [OK], and the Reset will start.

12. After the reset finishes, please go to https://router.asus.com and follow the QIS to set up your router again.

 

FAQ

1. What if I can't enter the web UI to restore my router after upgrading firmware?

You can push the RESET button on your router. (See image below)

Then press and hold the reset button for 5-10 seconds until your power LED light starts to flash.

None of the LED lights should not be on at this time. It is normal due to the router restarting.

Wait for the LED lights to turn on again and try to login to the WEB UI.

 

2. What if my Firmware upgrading fails?

First, please try to restore your router and upgrade the firmware again. If it still doesn't work, you can use the Firmware Restoration Utility to help you upload the firmware in Rescue Mode.
